Will Reading Help Your Business?

Fellow business owners, coaches, and other experts who have already been "there" and done "that" can save you time, energy and heartache by helping you avoid costly mistakes in your business. Reading, listening to podcasts, and networking with other business owners are great ways to round out your training as an entrepreneur.

The deeper I get into entrepreneurship, the more I realize I don't know enough. So I like to shortcut my education by reading business-related books and listening to podcasts. Some of the topics can be a bit dry, but they are important nevertheless. I aspire to be a great sales person and I've been reading and listening to people like Grant Cardone, Dale Carnegie, and Zig Ziglar.

One of my favorite sales books is Sell it Like Serhant by Ryan Serhant. He is one of the Bravo TV stars of Million Dollar Listing New York. I've seen him on the show countless times. I appreciate his approach and ability to close numerous high dollar sales, connect with people at all levels, find unique ways of getting people's attention, and manage a huge team-not to mention he is pretty entertaining to watch!

Top 3 Take-Aways from the Book

Always work multiple deals at one time.

Momentum begets momentum. His approach keeps you from putting all of the proverbial eggs in one basket. You should not pin all your hopes on one lead, one client, or one service. "It takes just as much energy to manage one ball [in the air] as it does four, five or even six."

Success may look different than what you originally thought it would.

"Choose success first, career second." When you are open to the possibility of success however it may come into your life, you have more ways for it to find you. Build your skill set, connect with people, and put in the work. You never know where it may take you.

Follow Up is Key to Success.

Serhant's follow up methodology is simple--follow up, follow through, and follow back. Stay in touch with current and past clients, keep your promises and do what you say you will do, and make lasting connections because you never know where your next client will come from.

I enjoyed this book and it was a quick read. I took so many notes!
